The family of former Minister of Power and leading All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, has confirmed the abduction of his younger sister, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, alongside her twin sons by suspected gunmen in Ibadan.
According to a statement issued by the family, the incident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, while Mrs. John-Paul was reportedly on her way to drop her children at school. The armed assailants allegedly intercepted her vehicle and forcefully whisked away the 43-year-old and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul.
The family described the development as distressing, noting that Mrs. John-Paul is the youngest of the five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu. Before her voluntary retirement last year, she had worked with the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian.
The statement revealed that all relevant security agencies were immediately notified following the incident and have since commenced investigations. Security operatives are reportedly working to secure the safe release of the victims and apprehend those responsible for the crime.
While expressing confidence in the efforts of law enforcement authorities, the family appealed to members of the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could undermine ongoing rescue operations.
The family also called on Nigerians to offer prayers and support during the difficult period, urging anyone with useful information that could assist security agencies to come forward through the appropriate channels.
They assured that they would continue to cooperate fully with security authorities and provide updates as developments unfold.
