The Imole Campaign Council has raised the alarm over the reported presence of armed security personnel around the residence of the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon.
Adewale Egbedun.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, Esq., the council said the security personnel reportedly arrived in more than 10 black Hilux vehicles and allegedly sealed off the residence, preventing people inside from leaving.

The council said it could not independently confirm the purpose of the deployment or determine whether the security personnel were providing protection or carrying out an official operation.

It therefore called on relevant security authorities to urgently clarify the reason for the deployment and the reported restriction of movement at the Speaker’s residence.

According to the statement, attempts were made to contact the Commissioner of Police for the election, the DIG Election contact line and the Police Situation Room, but the calls were either unanswered or the numbers were unavailable.

The campaign council urged security agencies to ensure that their operations on Election Day do not create fear or intimidation among residents.
It also called on the people of Osun State to remain peaceful and law-abiding while awaiting an official explanation from the security authorities.

The statement stressed that residents should be allowed to freely exercise their right to vote without intimidation or interference.
