April is Sexual Assault Awareness month. It is the Month to call attention to the fact that sexual violence is widespread and impacts every person in the community.
Across various platforms, from social media campaigns to educational seminars and community events, the focus remains on raising awareness about the prevalence of sexual assault and the urgent need for prevention, support, and justice for survivors.
To raise more awarness about this prevailing issue, Yesfm’s Oluwasemiloore Ige spoke with a representative of Smile Centre, Juliet Olumuyiwa-Rufai, who said communites can come together by making sure perpatrators are answerable to their crime.
Despite the progress made in raising awareness and providing support, challenges persist, including underreporting of incidents, stigma, and systemic barriers to justice.
However, the collective efforts of survivors, advocates, and allies continue to drive momentum toward creating a world free from sexual violence.##
