DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD

Today is International Day of the Girl Child, a global day dedicated to promoting the rights and challenges of girls worldwide.

This year’s theme which is “Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being,” emphasises on the significance of empowering girls, recognising their leadership potential, and guaranteeing their general well-being.

According to United Nations,100 million girls are at risk of child marriage in the next decade,to avoid this Yesfm’s Oluwasemiloore Ige spoke to people on ways to address the challenges of child marriage and early pregnancies to protect the rights and futures of girls.

Furthermore, Ensuring girls’ access to technology and digital skills is crucial in the digital age, bridging the gender gap and preparing them for leadership roles. UN Secretary-General António Guterres had this to say  “Women and girls can lead us to a fairer future…let us amplify girls’ voices, and recommit to working together to build a world where every girl can lead and thrive.”
