OGUN road crash claims four lives

Four persons have died in a road crash that occurred around 11 p.m. on Monday at the Ijebu-Imushin axis of the Ijebu Ode–Ore Expressway in Ogun State.

The crash, which was attributed to speeding, involved a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number BDJ 482 XC and a blue MAN Diesel truck belonging to Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.

The spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun State, Afolabi Odunsi-Oyewole, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday.

According to Odunsi-Oyewole, the crash occurred at about 11:16 p.m. on Monday.

She said, “A white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number BDJ482XC collided with a blue MAN Diesel truck with registration number RSH969XC belonging to Julius Berger. The incident occurred at the Ijebu-Imushin axis of the Ijebu Ode–Ore Expressway.

“Regrettably, all four occupants of the bus—two male adults and two female adults—sustained fatal injuries and were confirmed dead at the scene. No survivors or other injuries were recorded.”

Odunsi-Oyewole said preliminary investigations revealed that the crash was caused by speeding.

She explained that the truck was being towed when the towing chain suddenly snapped, leaving the vehicle stationary on the road.

The accident involved a truck loaded with yams and a commercial tricycle.

The crash occurred when the truck reportedly lost control while attempting to make a U-turn, leading to a collision with the tricycle.
