Nigerians are facing challenges due to the rising costs of essential items, including cooking gas, with no relief in sight.
Residents of Ibadan shared their struggles and alternative cooking methods amidst the soaring prices during an interview with Yesfm’s Oluwasemiloore Ige.
In May 2021, a twelve point five [12.5kg] gas cylinder was priced at three thousand ,seven hundred and fifty naira [#3,750], by March 2022, it had risen to eight thousand, five hundred naira[N8,500]. The average retail cost for refilling this cylinder increased by thirty nine point seven eight[ 39.78%] year-on-year in December 2022.
By October 2023, till date prices the price of gas has increased beyond reasonable doubt forcing many to turn to firewood, sawdust, and charcoal due to the affordability crisis exacerbated by the continuous price hikes.
