INSECURITY IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS

Tertiary institution’s education goals are reachable in an atmosphere of teaching and research that is free of tension and insecurity.

Recently, most universities and polytechnics in Nigeria are facing insecurity concerns such as rape and theft, among other things.

Bandits kidnapped a significant number of students of the Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State, last Friday.

Some Parents who spoke with Yes FM’s Oluwasemiloore Ige urged the federal government to investigate the country’s security, particularly at higher institutions.

One of them said;

   “One would be concerned about the rate of our female student’s insecurity. Looking at this from the aspect of an increase in insecurity such as ‘ drug addiction’.

What is required of  tertiary institutions is to

Construct more female hostels do as to reduce drastically the attempt of rep on our female students, not forgetting the issue of ritual killing”.

Another person said;

“The economic hardship political instability and unemployment have really brought about all this. The students are not comfortable in their respective campuses and I must say, the real cause is the economic issue of the country. The government should please ensure they provide adequate security for students because, once they leave their house, they become government property”.

Others advised that The federal government should allocate sufficient funds to security agencies and ensure the armed forces are equipped with ICT security systems in all Nigerian institutions.

Today marks Nine years and one hundred and sixty-two (162) days since our Chibok girls were captured and Five years and two hundred and fourteen (214) days since the abduction of Leah Sharibu, the Dapchi schoolgirl.
