WORLD DOWN SYNDROME AWARNESS MONTH

October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month, a common genetic disorder characterized by an extra copy of chromosome 21, causing physical and intellectual challenges which is caused by an error in cell division during the formation of reproductive cells or during early fetal development.

Yes FM’s Oluwasemiloore Ige spoke with Mrs. Tola Makinde, founder of Morainbow Down Syndrome Foundation, to raise awareness about Down syndrome, its causes, and ways to combat seclusion.

 

She noted that Early diagnosis is crucial for providing medical and developmental support, ensuring people with Down syndrome reach their full potential and contribute to society.
