The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Abimbola, on Sunday led senior officers and journalists to a kidnappers’ hideout in Lakoun Community (Lakoun Estate) along the Ayegun-Olojuoro Road in Oluyole Local Government Area of Ibadan, publicly revealing the location where the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and her two children were held captive.
The visit came days after a swift intelligence-led operation secured the safe rescue of Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul (also known as Mrs. Busayo John-Paul) and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul. The victims were abducted around June 3, 2026, in the Challenge/Elewura area of Ibadan while heading to school.
CP Abimbola expressed concern over the hideout’s location within a residential area, noting that locals had apparently observed suspicious activities without reporting them.
He stressed the need for stronger community-police collaboration to combat insecurity in the state.
According to the police chief, the rescue was achieved through technical intelligence and coordinated follow-up actions.
The Lakoun hideout was described as a sparsely furnished building containing household items such as a solar panel, mattresses, and plastic chairs, indicating it had been used as a functional base for the criminals.
The Oyo State Police Command dismissed rumours linking activist Sunday Igboho to the operation, clarifying that it was driven entirely by police intelligence.
Investigations into the motive behind the kidnapping, believed to be financially motivated, and any possible wider syndicate are ongoing.
