Stakeholders and residents of Oyo state have lauded the impacts of radio as world celebrates radio day

Today, February 13th, marks World Radio Day, a celebration of the enduring influence and significance of radio broadcasting across the globe. Established by UNESCO in 2011, this annual observance serves to honor the medium’s unique ability to inform, educate, and entertain diverse audiences, while also promoting dialogue and understanding among communities.

In an era dominated by digital media platforms and streaming services, radio continues to thrive as a vital source of news, music, culture, and emergency information, particularly in regions with limited access to internet connectivity.

From rural villages to bustling urban centers, radio remains a trusted companion, providing a lifeline of communication and connection.

This year’s theme, ‘Radio: A Century of Informing, Entertaining and Educating.’ reflects the remarkable achievement of radio as a means of communication and information for over 100 years, despite the advent of the social media. But do people still listen to radio nowadays.

With the rise of online streaming services , podcasting platforms, and traditional radio stations, a broadcaster Mr Adeolu Gboyega speaks on innovative steps that need to be adopted to make radio stay relevant in another century.

Nevertheless, the enduring appeal of radio lies in its simplicity and accessibility. With just a turn of the dial, listeners can tune in to voices from around the world, discovering new perspectives and forging connections that transcend boundaries.
